Woman Alleges CHP Officer Sexually Assaulted Her After Routine Traffic Stop in Santa Ana

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Los Angeles, Calif., April 18, 2018 — On April 6, 2018, at approximately 8:20 pm, a California Highway Patrol officer arrived at a Santa Ana apartment building under the pretense of following up on a routine traffic stop and allegedly sexually assaulted a Hispanic female.

Earlier in the day, at approximately 5:30 pm, the same CHP officer stopped the victim’s car that was being driven by her husband on southbound I-5 near the Red Hill Avenue exit. After writing her husband a citation for an unlicensed driver, the CHP officer released the victim and her husband.

Hours after the traffic stop the officer showed up at the victim’s apartment and asked to speak to her alone. When she agreed to be questioned, the officer took her behind her building into a parking lot and allegedly groped her genitals. The alleged assault ended when a neighbor was walking nearby, and the officer withdrew his advances. As he left, the officer told his victim that he’d return next week.

After reporting the incident to the City of Santa Ana Police Department, detectives then sought and seized video surveillance from the private security company that secures the apartment’s premises. While the surveillance footage has yet to be released, it reportedly confirms the CHP officer was present at her apartment complex at the time of the incident.

The victim is represented by The Dominguez Firm, a personal injury law firm located in Los Angeles. JJ Dominguez, the firm’s founder and owner, said, “We take all incidents of public trust seriously and will conduct a thorough and detailed investigation and do everything in our power to hold those accountable for their misconduct, even a CHP officer.”

Mr. Dominguez continued, “CHP’s website boasts that the ‘CHP places great value on its role as trusted public servants’ and if that is so, we hope for its full cooperation in getting to the truth of the matter and to make sure justice is served.”
