The recipient of The Dominguez Firm’s Legal Scholarship for the Spring of 2024 is Gabriela Monico Nuñez, who is currently attending Yale Law School. Congratulations to Gabriela on this well-deserved achievement! The Dominguez Firm extends its best wishes to her. We’re confident she will leave a lasting and positive impact in the legal field and the greater community.
Gabriela Monico Nuñez’s journey from El Salvador to the United States at age 16 is a story of resilience and determination. Overcoming major challenges, including experiencing housing insecurity, Gabriela became the first in her family to attend college at UC Berkeley. While there, her leadership in the undocumented support group and advocacy efforts led to significant achievements, including the passage of the California Domestic Worker Bill of Rights.
Upon graduation, she worked as an immigration paralegal with a diverse clientele, inspiring her decision to become an attorney. Helping those who often don’t have a voice in our society became a focal point. At Yale Law School, she is involved in the Worker and Immigrant Rights Advocacy Clinic. This group focuses on unionization and seeking justice for immigrant families affected by family separation.
Gabriela told us what this scholarship means to her, “I am deeply honored to have been selected as a recipient of The Dominguez Firm’s Legal Scholarship. I am an immigrant and a first-generation student; it is because of the support of programs like this that I have been able to access higher education and reach my goals. In the future, I hope to pay it forward by representing vulnerable people in court and by helping future generations of aspiring attorneys.”
