Get to Know The Dominguez Firm’s 2024 Fall Legal Scholar, Joshuel Marley Calderon
The winner of The Dominguez Firm’s Legal Scholarship for the Fall of 2024 is Joshuel Marley Calderon, a student at UCLA School of Law. We congratulate him on this achievement and look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have as an attorney practicing family law.
Joshuel’s educational background saw him study at two major U.S. universities on opposing coasts. He attends UCLA School of Law after completing his undergraduate studies at New York University. His personal journey has been marked by personal and financial difficulties. An unstable household, followed by his mother’s illness, tested his resilience early on. He was forced to work multiple jobs to support his family while continuing his studies. Against such formidable barriers, he not only managed to persevere but also graduated magna cum laude from New York University one year early.
Childhood experiences fueled Joshuel’s passion for family law. He saw firsthand how the divorce process was costly and complex; how it disproportionately hurts women and children, through no fault of their own. Convinced there has to be a better way, his goal is to serve and advocate for the rights of Hispanic/Latinx single mothers and children navigating divorce. We know he’ll be a force for much-needed positive change for them.
Joshuel expressed his appreciation for his selection, “I am incredibly honored and grateful to receive this scholarship. This support allows me to continue my studies and focus on my goal of helping underprivileged students gain equal access to education. Your generosity not only lifts a significant burden but also enables me to dedicate myself fully to creating opportunities for others and contributing to a more equitable future. Thank you for believing in my vision and empowering me to continue this important work.”
